Ribbon
Trials
These are informal competitions held by
the local dog clubs, often outside (regardless of weather) and
entries are taken on the day. The Tests start at Elementary
level and go right through to Test C. Most dogs and handlers
training in the special beginners class would be capable of
entering an Elementary test and some in the Special Beginners
test. Ribbons are awarded to 5th place for Elementary and
Special Beginners and to 3rd place in other classes /
tests.
Championship Obedience
Test
To enter a Championship Obedience Test
(Champ show) you must be a member of the NZ Kennel Club and
your dog must be registered with the NZ Kennel Club. All breeds
and cross breeds can be registered with the NZ Kennel Club as
an “obedience competitor”.
These are formal competitions held by the local dog clubs,
(often inside, here at the NZ Kennel Club grounds at Ardmore).
Entries are taken about 2 weeks in advance and are advertised
in the NZ Kennel Club Gazette. The cost is usually between
$10-$12 per entry. The tests start at Special Beginners and go
right through to Test C: ribbons and prizes are awarded to 5th
place. Elementary classes are now being introduced at Champ
Shows, payable on the
day.
